Corrections Policy
How Media Alert Press handles errors in published content — including the process, timeline, and transparency requirements for corrections, updates, and clarifications.
Types of Changes
Correction
A factual error in the original published content. Corrections are labeled prominently at the top of the affected story and describe what was incorrect and what the accurate information is. The original error is not silently removed.
Update
New information that changes the context or accuracy of a story after publication. Updates are labeled with the date they were added. The original reporting is preserved with an update note appended.
Clarification
A statement that was ambiguous or likely to be misread. Clarifications are labeled separately from corrections — MAP does not relabel a correction as a clarification.
Retraction
In rare cases where a story cannot be adequately corrected, MAP issues a retraction notice at the original URL. Retractions are included in our corrections log.
Process and Timeline
Correction requests are reviewed by an editor within one business day. If the request identifies a genuine factual error, the correction is published as soon as it has been verified — typically within 24 hours of the decision to correct. When a correction is published, the person who reported the error is notified by reply to their original request.
